Food Blogger Picks for Sharing A Meal in This Festive Season

We think good food and good company are the perfect recipe for a great time. A delicious meal tastes better when its shared, and there's nothing better than food to bring people together. We invited three top Aussie food bloggers to dine at a participating Good Food Gift Card restaurant of their choice, and to share about why they think their restaurant pick makes for the ideal spot to take someone special this festive season. Here's what they had to say:

Catherine from Petit Miamx

Melbourne food blogger Catherine Khuu from Petit Miamx treated a friend to a meal at Carlton's The Town Mouse.

"The Town Mouse is a perennial favourite of mine because of the cosy atmosphere and the food is top notch. They truly highlight the beauty of the produce they utilise; and the way that they combine different elements together, that you normally wouldn't envision, is really unique.

"I took my friend here, who only recently moved to Sydney, to show her what she's missing out on but it's a great spot for date nights or even a small group of friends.

"There's nothing better than sharing great food with great friends. Not to mention, using the gift card ruled out any arguments about who was paying and it was extremely easy to use."

Bizzy Lizzy from Good Things

Liz Posmyk, aka 'Bizzy Lizzy', shares her own delicious recipes, interviews with local produce sellers and growers as part of keeping her pulse on all things food related in Canberra on her blog Good Things.

"My partner and I chose to enjoy breakfast at Pod Food at Pialligo. A venue renowned for great food and excellent service, it's also a hidden gem tucked away in a most beautiful part of Canberra. Only minutes from the CBD and airport, a trip to Pialligo is like stepping into a secluded country village. When we were first dating, we used to eat breakfast out every weekend, so our visit to Pod Food was a real treat.

"The breakfast menu is innovative, in that it offers more than your standard 'full breakfast' of bacon and eggs, and such. We loved the spiced pancakes with caramel bananas, banana ice cream and peanut brittle. There was a stack of light and fluffy pancakes, with just the right amount of creamy ice cream, morsels of banana and sweet, light caramel. The house-cured pork belly made a tasty side. Oh and the coffee is great too!

"Pod Food is the perfect setting for couples of all ages who want to share a quiet breakfast, brunch or dinner date, but it's also excellent for groups of friends having a get-together or celebration."

Libby Margo from The Very Very Hungry Caterpillar

Food lover Libby, who blogs over at The Very Very Hungry Caterpillar, dined out at Champagne CBR in Broadbeach. Here's what she had to say:

"It's one of my favourite restaurants on the Gold Coast – unpretentious French bistro fare and it's right by the beach, making it perfect for brunch.

"Don't laugh, but I took a Tinder date here and, unfortunately, the meal was better than the conversation (to put it politely). Champagne CBR's refined yet relaxed atmosphere is great for gatherings with family and friends so I'd be bringing a big group there instead next time.

"I like that the food was no nonsense, unpretentious and reasonably priced. It's hard to find good honest French food on the Gold Coast so this place is a gem. French restaurants can be (unfairly) known for being posh and snotty, but Champagne CBR is nothing like that – the service was warm and friendly, I think the relaxed beachside vibe made all the difference."
