For Australians, Sauvignon blanc is the gold medallist of wine. It's easy to drink, and light and refreshing during summer. However, according to Huon Hooke, it's not the only drop worth sipping during the warmer months.
In the interest of promoting diversity, there are some great other wines to try this summer.
2012 Chapel Hill Il Vescovo McLaren Vale White: This verdelho is light and soft, with a smooth texture. Flavours are slightly herbal, floral, and tropical, making this a perfect wine to have with summer lunch.
2012 Casa Freschi La Signorina, Adelaide Hills: This dry white is packed full of interesting flavours, from smoky sulfides to caramel and spices and behind it all lies a lemon-sherbet tang that's refreshingly sweet.
2013 Head Grenache Rose, Barossa Valley: Summer calls for a fresh, fruity and just a bit sweet wine and this rose fits the bill. This makes for a well-balanced glass of wine with low acidity and a scent like raspberries.
