What and where will be the Hot Food in 2014?

shutterstock_141202684Anticipated food trends hit the headlines every year as experts and enthusiasts predict what will be hot over the coming months. This year, Restaurant.com has foreseen five key trends in American food and restaurants, according to Restaurantnews.com.

The first emerging theme will be the humble egg. Not content with being a breakfast staple and adorning pizza and burgers, eggs will be finding their way into many more dishes in 2014.

There will also be a lean towards authenticity and dishes created with local, fresh farm ingredients such as honey, cheese and poultry.

In line with the farm food trend, artisan bread will get a more prominent role on menus as restaurants produce their own 'home-made' loaves and rolls for diners.

Interestingly, tea is predicted to be a key ingredient as well as a refreshing beverage. Expect to see cupcakes made with green tea, marinades including ground tea and sweet tea as an alternative to more traditional blends.

Finally, super foods such as flax seeds and pomegranate will be a focus for 2014 as chefs recognise the nutritional benefits of these health powerhouses.
