Australians love their prawns and no more so than at Christmas time when 40% of the annual amount of prawns eaten are consumed. Prawns offer juicy, sweet flesh with salty nuances and are naturally high in Omega 3 and a multitude of vitamins, meaning they are good for you too.
According to Taste, there are hundreds of ways to use prawns in your diet, from eating them fresh with just a squeeze of lemon to tossing them in some chilli and garlic for a delicious treat. It all starts, however, with the peeling of a prawn.
Step 1: Squeeze the back of the head, gently twist and detach from the body.
Step 2: Starting underneath, roll off the shell, taking the legs with you.
Step 3: Squeeze the tail and delicately slide it off.
Step 4: Using your fingers, remove the black intestinal tract from the prawn by carefully pulling the tract through the opening at the head.
