Five Amazing Asian Drinks

shutterstock_67854148There are a range of different drinks that originated in Asia that Good Food has recommended everyone try, including:

  1. Brown rice tea – This drink has a nutty flavour and is also known as genmaicha or popcorn tea. It is a mixture of green tea and rice grains, and contains less caffeine than regular green tea.
  2. Sugarcane juice is made by wringing the thick syrup out of the sugarcane poles. The syrup is served in several different ways, such as with cumquat juice in Vietnam and ginger and lime in India.
  3. Lassi is a cold Indian thickshake-like drink made with yoghurt. Australians tend to make it with fruit and sugar, but in India you can find other varieties of lassi including spiced, salted and sweet. Lassi works well after a spicy meal to take the heat out of your mouth.
  4. For a hot beverage with a difference, why not try pulled tea? Also known as teh tarik, this frothy hot drink is made with condensed milk and strongly-flavoured tea dust. Commonly mistaken for a chai latte in appearance, this drink is a Singaporean and Malaysian classic.
  5. Originally made to eat as a snack, the 'three-colour drink' contains coconut cream, jelly, various beans and an assortment of other ingredients individual to each maker. Originating from Vietnam, this drink are substantial enough to have instead of lunch if you are busy sightseeing.
