shutterstock_10076515We've known for some time that Australian restaurants are increasing the quality of the food being served and confirmation has come in the form of Elite Traveller magazine's annual Best Restaurants list.

According to Daily Life, five Australian restaurants made their way into the top 100 eateries, with Sydney's Marque being placed at number 35. Chef Mark Best is well known as one of Australia's greatest chefs and the Surry Hills restaurant has won many coveted awards.

Next in was Ben Shewry's Melbourne restaurant, Attica, which was named the 56th best restaurant in the world. Serving beautifully balanced modern cuisine, Attica takes food to the next level and continually serves delights that are evocative, emotional and thought provoking. It recently won restaurant of the year in The Age's Good Food Guide awards.

Another Melbourne mention was Shannon Bennett's Vue de Monde, coming close behind at number 58.

Chicago's Alinea topped the best restaurant list for the third year in a row.

Tetsuya was the fourth Australian restaurant to join the list at number 60 and Peter Gilmore's Sydney restaurant Quay made the list at number 88.
