Stay Healthy by Embracing Dude Food

shutterstock_105988247The 'dude food' trend could be the ideal solution for men who want the taste of fast food without having to succumb to unhealthy options.

Active men are keen not to undo their hard work by consuming fatty meals and snacks, according to the Daily Telegraph. Dude food solves the problem; men create their own, healthier versions of their favourite foods rather than opting for oily alternatives.

There are lots of ways to make meals more healthy, claimed Louise Fulton Keats. A food and nutrition writer, Fulton Keats suggested the following swaps to increase the health credentials of your food:

  • If you use sauces, choose tomato salsa over tomato sauce to reduce the kilojoules. Sour cream is also a better choice than mayonnaise.
  • Pumpkin is lower in kilojoules than potato and has the benefit of containing betacarotene too.
  • Beef contains around twice the fat of kangaroo, so choose a roo burger over traditional beef.
  • A lean steak is better for you than sausages, so go for the iron-rich red meat over fatty snags.
