Where to Go After the St Patrick's Day Parade in Sydney

shutterstock_141719407Outside of Ireland, there's no better place to celebrate St Patrick's Day than Sydney. Come March 16, Aussies and Irish and everyone in between will be lining the city streets to watch the annual St Patrick's Day Parade, with this year's theme being "Sydney Celebrating Its Irishness".

The event is colourful, vibrant and exciting, so when it's all over the last thing you want to do is go home. But where do you go?

One other thing that Sydney is fantastic at celebrating is food. The city is home to an array of fabulous restaurants and some of the world's best chefs, including the Irish, have set up shop to bring you some incredible cuisine. While the restaurants to choose from are endless, there's a few in particular that will be buzzing after the parade:

The Clock Hotel

There is always fun to be had at The Clock Hotel, be it a drink on the Surry Hills balcony or a modern share plate in the sunken courtyard. The menu ranges from Cuban sliders to fresh salads and pizza, and the infamous Clock Brisket Burger sees locals returning again and again.

To keep the fun flowing, be sure to try one of their expertly crafted cocktails from the award-winning bar.

Bishop Sessa

If the belief that using local produce makes food taste better is true, it's little wonder why the food at The Bishop Sessa bistro and wine bar tastes so good. Chef Paul Cooper prides himself on using local produce, and dishes include pork from Melanda Park, lamb from Milly Hill and organic Wagyu from Dunedoo. Aged and butchered on the premises, his sides of pig, beef and lamb are to die for, and his love for creating magnificent desserts tops off the food experience.

Once the popular French restaurant Tabou, Bishop Sessa takes a lighter approach to dining, choosing to focus on a contemporary, European and modern Australian menu, with a relaxed, family friendly atmosphere.

Opera Bar

There is no bar more iconic in Sydney than the Opera Bar. With its spectacular location at the base of the Opera House steps and the magnificent views over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Opera Bar is the perfect place to finish off your celebrations over great food and wine. With live music, a reputation as the "best beer garden in the world" and large tables perfect for groups, your fun will continue long into the night.

Bar H

In the heart of Surry Hills sits a modern asian restaurant with a thumping vibe. Sit at the window and watch the St Patrick's revellers make their way home, or sit at the bar and watch the expert chefs create amazing dishes such as Dong-po pork and steamed salt bush. The lounge style seating in the main dining area of Bar H calls for a relaxed dining experience and the friendly atmosphere makes it the perfect place to finish off the festivities.

Quay

There's no restaurant quite like Peter Gilmore's Quay, with its spectacular views over the harbour and out to the lights of Luna Park. Gilmore has long been thought of as one of the country's best chefs, and his love of exploring texture has his team serving up treats such as sashimi of scallops, mud crab and poached duck. In 2013, Quay was once again voted The Good Food Guide's Restaurant of the Year, and deservedly so. It's the fifth time the restaurant has taken the title.
